Convert a project
Convert a project to upgrade it from an earlier version of
View Designer
to the current installed version of View Designer
. Converting a project to an earlier version of View Designer
is not allowed.
IMPORTANT:
Converting a
View Designer
project to a later version does not convert any user-defined changes to predefined screens or the System Banner. When converting a project to a later version, reapply the user-defined changes to the predefined screens and the System Banner. To copy user-defined changes to predefined screens and the System Banner:
- Copy the user-defined content (for example, the System Banner) and paste it to a temporary screen in the original project.
- Convert the project to a later version.
- Copy the changes from the temporary screen back to predefined screens or the System Banner
- Delete the temporary screen.
Prerequisites
- Verify the version used to save the project without openingView Designer. Browse to and hover over the .vpd file. Right-clicking the .vpd file, selectingProperties, and then selecting theDetailstab also shows the project version.
To convert a project
- (optional) To retain customized content on a predefined screen or the System Banner, open the project using the current version ofView Designer, copy any customized predefined screen or the System Banner content to a separate screen for temporary storage, and then save and close the project.TIP:Copy content that appears on separate tabs of predefined screens to separate screens.
- Create a new project inView Designerusing the new version.

- To repair a missing or corrupt project template manually, copy the missing or corrupt content from another project. After revising theTemplatesfolder manually, delete the corrupt project template.
- (optional) Copy the custom content from the temporary screens created in step 1 onto the new versions of the predefined screens and System Banner. Then delete the temporary screens.
