Add a PDF graphic element to a screen, popup, or Add-On Graphic

Add a PDF graphic element to a screen, popup, or Add-On-Graphic from the
Toolbox
to display the PDF document on the HMI device. PDF graphic elements exist in the
Toolbox
. The PDF document that a PDF graphic element references exists in the
Documents
folder of the
Project Explorer
.
Prerequisites
  • (optional) Create bookmarks for the PDF document prior to adding the document to the project.
To add a PDF graphic element to a screen or popup, or Add-On Graphic
  1. From the
    Toolbox
    , expand the
    System
category and then double-click or drag the PDF graphic element to a screen, popup, or definition of an Add-On Graphic.
  2. On the
    Select Document
    dialog box, either:
    • Select an existing PDF document and select
      OK
      .
    • Select
      Browse
, select a new PDF document or multiple PDF documents, select
      Open
to add the documents to the
      Select Image
dialog box, select the PDF document to add to the screen, and then select
      OK
      .
The PDF graphic element appears on the screen and references the PDF document.
      TIP:
      Tips:
      • Browsing to and selecting multiple PDF documents in the
        Select Document
dialog box highlights the last selected PDF document.
      • Selecting
        Cancel
        on the
        Select Document
dialog box places a PDF graphic element on the screen. The PDF graphic element displays a message to add a PDF document to the PDF graphic element.
  3. In the
    Properties
    window, select the
    Properties
tab. The properties for that item appear in categories.
  4. Expand a category to display a property and change the value or bind a property.
    TIP:
    Tips:
    • To add a PDF Viewer Add-On Graphic configured with touch navigation and zoom commands, add a PDF Viewer Add-On Graphic from the
      Add-On Graphics
      category of the
      Toolbox
      .
    • Adding a PDF document from the
      Assets > Documents
      folder of the
      Project Explorer
      opens the
      Select PDF Viewer
dialog box to select the PDF Viewer Add-On Graphic or PDF graphic element to display the PDF document on the HMI device.
    • PDF documents on the HMI device support internal links for navigation within the PDF document. PDF documents on the HMI device do not support external links. PDF links cannot navigate outside of the PDF document on the HMI device.
    • PDF files that contain complex drawings take longer to render. For example, if a PDF document contains an image comprised of individual shapes such as lines, circles, and rectangles, that image takes longer to render than a drawing that is a single image.
    • Do not rotate the PDF graphic element or a PDF Viewer Add-On Graphic. Rotating an element containing a PDF document reduces the clarity of content in the PDF document and prevents zooming and navigating the PDF document on the HMI device.
