Create modules

From the
Select Module Type
dialog box, search for and select the type of module to create. Options are to filter the list of modules by category (for example, analog, digital, motion, communications), by catalog number, by vendor or to chose a module from a customized list of favorites.
  1. From the Catalog Results list, select the module to create.
    From the
    Catalog
tab, select a module type based on
    Catalog Number
    ,
    Description
    ,
    Vendor
    or
    Category
    . See
Locate target module type using the Catalog tab
    below.
    From the
    Module Discovery
tab, select the module from a list of modules that are attached to a given backplane or network. The Modules list is only populated if the
    Logix Designer
    application is online and the
    Module Discovery
tab is the active tab. See
Browse for modules using the Module Discovery tab
    below.
    From the
    Favorites
tab, select the module from a list of modules. Create the Favorites list by selecting a module on either the
    Catalog
    tab or
    Module Discovery
    tab and then selecting
    Add to Favorites
. The module then appears in the list of favorites on the
    Favorites
tab. This list might include those modules configured most frequently. See
Locate target module type using the Favorites tab
    below.
Note that when the controller is online, only those modules that are capable of being added while online are selectable. Other modules that can be configure while offline appear in the list, but are not enabled to select while online. When the controller is offline, these modules are selectable as well.
  2. Once a module is selected, choose
    Create
    .
  3. For those module types where the
    Logix Designer
    application displays the
    Select Major Revision
dialog box with a list of major revisions, select a major revision and select
    OK
before continuing on to the next dialog box.
    This launches the
    New Module
dialog box. Note that the information contained in this dialog box is the same as the information contained in the
    General
    tab of the
    Module Properties
    dialog box.
  4. Enter the configuration information for the module.
Note that some words may be reserved by the
    Logix Designer
application. Entering a reserved name results in an error message.
  5. When finished entering information in the
    New Module
    dialog box, select
    OK
    .
    If
    Open Module Properties
    is selected, the
    Module Properties
dialog box opens to further configure the module. Once created, edit properties by right-clicking the module in the
    Controller Organizer
    and choosing
    Properties
    .
