Add users and groups to Runtime Security

After you create users and user groups in FactoryTalk Security, you add them to the security accounts list in the
Runtime Security
editor in FactoryTalk View SE. When you add an account, you also assign the security codes that will give them access to secured HMI components. (Secured HMI components are those that have been assigned security codes.)
These codes (A through P), along with those assigned to HMI project components, determine which components a user has access to at runtime. To restrict access to a command, macro, graphic display, OLE object verb, or HMI tag, you assign a security code from A through P to it, and then assign that code only to the users who should have access to the component.
IMPORTANT:
If a user has FactoryTalk View SE runtime security codes assigned to them and FactoryTalk resources have been secured using FactoryTalk Security, users will need to be given security permissions in FactoryTalk Security in order to be able to perform actions on a FactoryTalk View application, such as opening and viewing it in FactoryTalk View Studio, or writing to a tag at runtime. Security permissions for resources secured at FactoryTalk Directory are set up in FactoryTalk Security. See the
FactoryTalk Services Platform Help
for details.
For more information about how these features are used in FactoryTalk View, and for examples of assigning FactoryTalk Security permissions to FactoryTalk View users and user groups, see Chapter 5 in the
FactoryTalk View Site Edition User's Guide
.
Prerequisites
  • Add users and groups to FactoryTalk Security
To add users and groups to Runtime Security:
  1. In
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    , click
    Settings
    > Runtime Security
    .
  2. In the
    Runtime Security
    dialog box, click
    Security Accounts
    .
  3. In the
    Security Settings
    dialog box, in the
    Permissions
    tab, click
    Add
    . This opens the
    Select User and Computer
dialog box if you are working with a network distributed application, or the
    Select User or Group
dialog box if you are working with a local station application.
    TIP:
A local station application has all its components on one computer and so there is no need to specify a computer for the users or groups.
  4. In the
    Select User and Computer
    dialog box (or the
    Select User or Group
dialog box if it is a local station application), below the
    Users
    list, select
    Show all
, to display the list of all users.
    TIP:
For a network distributed application, below the
    Computers
list, the default is for the
    All Computers
    to be selected.
  5. In the
    Users
list, click the name of a user or group and then click
    OK
    .
  6. In the
    Security Settings
    dialog box, in the
    Permissions
tab, the user you added is selected in the
    View permissions by
    section of the tab.
  7. To remove security code assignments that do not apply to the user, clear the
    Allow
check box beside the relevant codes, and then click
    OK
. By default, all FactoryTalk View SE security codes are assigned to a new user account.
  8. In the
    Runtime Security
dialog box, select the user or group you have just added, and then specify a login and logout macro, if necessary.
