Edit an Optix template

To edit a user-defined Optix template so that any new project created with the template contains the revised content, open the Optix template and modify the content. You can edit the template name and description that are displayed on the template card to describe the content of the template.
  1. In the main toolbar, select
    Project
    .
    The Start page opens.
  2. Open the Optix template by opening either:
    • Recent template. Select
      Home
      or select
      Open
      and then select
      Recent
      to select the Optix template to open.
    • Remote template. Select
      Open
      and then select
      Remote
      to select the Optix template to open, or enter a
      Remote URL
      and
      Location
      to select a remote Optix template.
    • Optix template. Select
      Open
      and then select
      Templates
      to select the local or remote Optix template to open.

  3. Change the content in the Optix template.
  4. Save the Optix template with:
    • The same name. From the toolbar, select
      Save
      .
    • A different name:
      1. Name
        . Enter the new name of the Optix template.
      2. Save as type
        . Select
        Optix Template (*.optixt)
        .
      3. Card description
        . Enter text that describes the Optix template. The description appears on the card when you select a template.
      4. Location
        . The location for templates is read-only.
        TIP: Optix templates are stored in
        C:\Users\Username\Documents\Rockwell Automation\\FactoryTalk Optix\ProjectTemplates
        . Optix template names are prepended with
        FTOptix_template_
        .
      5. (optional)
        Use Version Control
        . Select to track changes made to the Optix template and store the template in a Git repository.
      6. (optional)
        Encrypt secrets
        . Select to encrypt sensitive data contained in the Optix template.
      7. Select
        OK
        .
    • The same name and committed to the repository. From the toolbar, select
      Save
      Save and Commit
      .
  5. (optional) Change the default template name and description that appear on the card when selecting the template:
    1. In
      Properties
      , in
      Display name
      , type a descriptive name of the template.
    2. In
      Description
      , type a description such as the purpose of the template.
      TIP: Lengthy template descriptions are truncated but appear in full when hovering over the description on the template card.
  6. To close the Optix template, from the main toolbar, select
    Project
    , and then on the Start page, select
    Close Project
    .
