Configure a Communication driver

You can import tags from a compatible controller into
FactoryTalk Optix Studio
in the online or offline mode at design time.
TIP: If you want to import variables or nodes from a controller with an OPC UA server, see Manage the OPC UA client.
  • Learn about any specific considerations for your controller. See Communication drivers overview.
  • If you import tags in the offline mode, export tags from a supported controller to a file. See the controller user assistance.
  1. From the
    FactoryTalk Optix Studio
    toolbar, select
    Open dashboard page
    .
  2. Select
    I want to configure connected devices
    .
  3. Select
    New station
    .
  4. Select a station type.
  5. (optional) Edit the name of the station.
  6. Select
    Next
    .
  7. Fill in the properties and select
    Next
    .
  8. Select
    Next
    .
  9. Configure tags import:
    • If you import tags in the online mode, set the toggle to
      Online
      .
      TIP: Certain communication drivers support importing tags from controllers in the online mode. The online mode does not require you to export tags to a file from a controller manually. See Communication drivers overview.
    • If you import tags in the offline mode:
      1. Set the toggle to
        Offline
        .
      2. In the
        File path
        field, provide a path to the file with exported controller tags.
  10. Select the tags of interest and select
    Next
    .
  11. Select
    Exit
    .
In
Project view
, the variables corresponding to the selected tags are added.
