Import the CA Public Key

The test certificates created using the private CA scripts are not trusted by web browsers (see below).
If the user wants to eliminate the browser errors when using the test certificates, the root certificate for the private CA can be imported into the system’s trusted certificate store. Most browsers allows to do this in the advanced settings.
  • In Google Chrome Browser
    CA Public Key
In Google Chrome, go to chrome://settings and scroll down to the bottom of the Settings page and click on the Advanced drop-down list.

The menu displays, click [Manage certificates] and it will open a dialog for managing certificates. The dialog allows to import the root public key of the CA (ca.crt) into the list of trusted root certification authorities. Once imported, the browser will trust any certificates generated by the user managed CA.

After importing the root certificate in the browser, close the browser and open it again.
NOTE:
Refreshing the browser will not bring the updated certificate into effect. User needs to close the browser and open again.
Once the public key for the CA is installed, the browser will start trusting the certificates signed by the CA (see below).

  • In Microsoft Edge Chromium Browser
Perform the following steps to add a trusted root certificates in Microsoft Edge Chromium browser:
  1. Go to edge://settings/privacy and scroll down to the Security section.
  2. Click [Manage certificates] and the ‘Certificates’ dialog displays.

  3. The Certificates dialog allows the user to import the root public key of the CA (ca.crt) into the list of Trusted Root Certification Authorities. Once imported, the browser will trust any certificates generated by the user managed CA.

  • In Firefox Browser
Perform the following steps to add a trusted root certificates in Firefox browser:
  1. Click Open menu, and open Options.
  2. Go to the Privacy & Security tab.
  3. Go to the Certificates section.
  4. Click View Certificates button, the Certificate Manager dialog displays.
  5. Click Import and locate the certificate to import.
  6. Click Open to import the certificate.

  7. The Downloading Certificate dialog displays.
  8. Select the two checkboxes to add the certificates to the Trusted Sites and click OK to close the dialog.
  9. Click OK to close Inter Options dialog.
