Edit program parameter connections

Edit program parameter connections by changing connections.
Edit parameter connections in offline projects.
TIP: You cannot edit parameter connections in online projects.
TIP: Connections can also be edited in the
Properties
pane: Go to

Prerequisites
Open the Tag Editor
  1. In the explorer bar, select
    System
    System icon,
    Execution
    Execution icon, or
    Library
    Library icon.
  2. Select the element with connections to edit.
    • In
      System
      , select a program within a Smart Object.
    • In
      Execution
      , select a program within a controller application.
    • In
      Library
      , select a program within a Smart Object.
  3. In the explorer title bar, select
    View tags and parameters
    View Tags and Parameters icon or right-click the element and select
    Tags and parameters
    .
  4. In the
    Tag Editor
    , locate the desired parameter and
    Connections
    column.
    Connections
    displays one of the following:
    • A parameter name: The name of the connected parameter.
    • {
      #
      :
      #
      } Connections: Multiple connections exist. The numbers indicate [number of connections to the parameter]:[number of connections to all submembers of the parameter].
To edit a connection for a program parameter with one connection
  1. In
    Connections
    , select the connection to edit.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • If you know the exact spelling of the object, program, and parameter names for the new connection:
      1. Do one of the following. To connect a:
        • FactoryTalk Smart Object
          in
          System
          , enter the name with the format Area.SmartObject.Program.Parameter.
        • FactoryTalk Smart Object
          in the
          Execution
          or
          Library
          , enter the name with the format SmartObject.Program.Parameter.
        • program that is in a controller application and not associated with a
          FactoryTalk Smart Object
          , enter it in the format ControllerApplicationName.Program.Parameter.
        Matching names appear.
      2. Select the desired name.
    • If you do not know the exact spelling of the object, program, and parameter names for the new connection:
      1. Select
        Data Item Browser
        Down Caret icon.
        The
        Data Item Browser
        displays available parameter names.
      2. Select the desired name.
      3. Select
        Close
        .
To edit a connection for a program parameter with multiple connections
  1. In
    Connections
    , select
    Browse
    Browse icon.
  2. In
    Connection Configuration
    , select the connection to edit.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • If you know the exact spelling of the object, program, and parameter names for the new connection, to connect a:
      • FactoryTalk Smart Object
        in
        System
        , enter the name with the format Area.SmartObject.Program.Parameter.
      • program that is in a controller application and not associated with a
        FactoryTalk Smart Object
        in
        Execution
        , enter the name in the format ControllerApplicationName.Program.Parameter.
      • FactoryTalk Smart Object
        in
        Library
        , enter the name with the format SmartObject.Program.Parameter.
      Matching names appear.
    • If you do not know the exact spelling of the object, program, and parameter names for the new connection:
      • Select
        Data Item Browser
        Down Caret icon.
        The
        Data Item Browser
        displays available parameter names.
  4. Select the desired name.
  5. (optional) Repeat to edit another connection.
  6. Select
    Close
    .
