Static Versus Dynamic IP Addresses
A static IP address is manually assigned and does not change. A dynamic IP address is automatically assigned by a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server and can change over time.
We recommend that you use static IP addresses for communication modules in redundancy systems. You cannot use dynamic IP addresses with IP address swapping.
ATTENTION:
If you use dynamic IP addresses and a power outage, or other network failure occurs, modules that use dynamic IP addresses can be assigned new addresses when the failure is resolved. If the IP addresses change, your application could experience a loss of control or other serious complications with your system.
