Configure the SMTP client to send email
Configure the SMTP client through the
Settings
screen on the HMI device. The HMI device sends an email to the configured email server when a configured event triggers the Send Email command.Prerequisites
The SMTP client only supports simple password authentication. Configure the email service for less secure access to allow the SMTP client to sign in.
For example, either log in to:
- Google®GmailTMand selectLess secure app access.
- Yahoo Mail and selectAllow apps that use less secure sign-in.
To configure the SMTP client to send email
- On the HMI device or in theSystem Banner, selectNavigation
and then select
Settings. - SelectEmail. TheEmailpopup opens.
- Configure the SMTP client:
- Server Name. Enter the name of the third party email server. For example: smtp.gmail.com or smtp.mail.yahoo.com
- Authentication. SelectPasswordto require a password to connect to the email server. SelectingNonerequires no authentication to connect to the email server.
- User Name. Enter the email address of user sending the email.
- Password. Enter the password to connect to the email server.
- Sender. Enter the name of the sender to appear in the emails.
- Use SSL. Select to use secure communication to the email server.
- Server Port. Enter the port number of the email server. Enter a port 1 – 65535. Ports 22, 53, 80, 2222, 27053, and 44818 are reserved for other services on the HMI device. For Gmail or Yahoo Mail, enter465.TIP:Tips:
- If not usingUse SSL, the email notification service supports STARTTLS only.
- Entering a Server Port that is out of range or reserved displays an error.
- An email server configuration completed on the HMI device persists after rebooting the HMI device, cycling power to the HMI device, and downloading a runtime application file to the HMI device.
- To create a secure connection with a server (TLS/STARTTLS), either:
- SelectSSLand set a port with an available SSL connection. For Gmail and Yahoo Mail, inServer Port, enter465.
- ClearSSLand set a port with the server that has a TLS/STARTTLS option. For Gmail and Yahoo Mail, In Server Port, enter587or25. If TLS/STARTTLS is not available, the connection is not secure.
- The HMI device connects to the email server and sends email notifications even when the SMTP client is configured for password authentication and the email server does not require password authentication.
