The
Device definition
dialog box includes these parameters:
Parameter
Description
Device type
Displays the device catalog number and type.
Name
Enter an IEC 61131 compliant device name.
If an invalid character is entered in this field, or if the name exceeds 40 characters, the software ignores the character.
Description
Enter the description of the device.
Tip
: The description must be within 128 characters. If the description exceeds the maximum length, the software ignores any extra characters.
Ethernet address
Specifies the IP configuration for the device. Possible options include:
  • Private network
    - Select the value from 1 to 254.
  • IP address
    - Enter a unique IP address to identify each node on the IP network.
  • Host name
    - Enter a fully qualified domain name, such as device.yourcompany.com.
Revision
Choose the appropriate major and minor revision of the device.
Use the major revision to indicate the revision of the interface to the device. Set the major revision. The default value for the major revision is 1.
Use the minor revision to indicate the firmware revision. Set the minor revision between 1 and 255. The default value for the minor revision is 1.
The major revision feature is not available in online mode. The minor revision feature is not available in Run mode.
Electronic keying
Specifies the electronic keying to use for the selected device. Valid values are:
  • Compatible Module (default)
  • Exact Match
  • Disable Keying
Electronic keying
is enabled while offline, and while in these modes:
  • Program
  • Remote Program
  • Remote Run modes.
Electronic keying
appears shaded in Run mode.

IMPORTANT
:
  • Changing Electronic Keying parameters online interrupts connections to the device and any devices that are connected through the device. Connections from other controllers can also be broken.
  • A loss of data may occur if an I/O connection to a device is interrupted.
  • Changing the RPI and Electronic Keying selections may cause the I/O communication connection to the device to be disrupted and may result in a loss of data.
Connection
Specifies the type of I/O connection to use between the device and the controller. The available values are:
  • Input Data (default)
  • Data
Connection
is not available in online mode.
IMPORTANT
: To disable a port set the corresponding output tag. Setting
Connection
to
Data
overwrites any previous setting performed through Device Manager, CLI, or CNA.
Data connection password
Specifies the password to the switch. This feature is only available when you set the
Connection
to
Data
. Passwords can contain up to 63 characters and are case sensitive. Valid characters include:
  • Letters A...Z (upper and lower case)
  • Numerals 0...9
  • Symbols ` ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + , - = { } | [ ] \ : ; ? / .
Tip
: The password cannot include embedded spaces.
