How do I open Device list?
  1. On the explorer bar, select Devices Icon
    Devices
    .
  2. In
    Devices
     explorer, select
    Device list
    .
TIP: From the top toolbar, select Device list icon
Device list
 to open the Device list while in any explorer.
Use
Device list
 to:
  • View, edit, and delete devices.
  • Open the device properties.
  • View tags and parameters for the devices in the project.
  • Edit the Name, Description, and Minor revision of a device.
The
Device list
 displays information for each device:
Column
Description
Name
Set the user-defined name of the device.
Description
Set the user-defined description of the device.
Revision
The firmware revision of the device. The major revision value is read-only, but you can set the minor revision value.
Catalog Number
The catalog number of the device. Hover over the catalog number to view the catalog description.
Category
The type of the device.
Vendor
The manufacturer of the device.
Electronic Keying
The electronic keying used for the module. Electronic keying compares the module defined in the project to the installed module. If keying fails, a fault occurs.
Valid values are Exact Match, Compatible Module, and Disable Keying. For detailed information on Electronic Keying, see Electronic Keying in

Electronic Keying options include:
  • Exact Match
    . Exact Match indicates that all keying attributes of the device that is defined in the project must match the attributes of the installed device to establish communication.
    If any attribute does not match precisely, communication with the device does not occur.
    Use Exact Match when you need the system to verify that the device revision in use is exactly as specified in the project. This requirement is typically found in highly regulated industries. Exact Match is also necessary to enable Automatic Firmware Update for the device using the Firmware Supervisor feature from a Logix5000 controller.
  • Compatible Module
    . Allows the installed device to accept the key of a device defined in the project so that the installed device can emulate the defined device. Use
    Compatible Module
     to replace a device with another device that has the:
    • Same catalog number
    • Same or higher Major Revision. If the Major Revision is the same, the Minor Revision must be the same or higher. If the Major Revision is higher, the Minor Revision can be any number.
  • Disabled Keying
    Disabled Keying indicates that the keying attributes are not considered when attempting to communicate with a device. Other attributes, such as data size and format, are considered and must be acceptable before communication is established.
    With Disabled Keying, communication can occur with a device other than the type specified in the project with unpredictable results. Unpredictable results can include unwanted and unexpected system behavior.
    WARNING:
    Be cautious when using
    Disabled Keying.
     If used incorrectly, this option can lead to personal injury or death, property damage, or economic loss.

     strongly recommends not using
    Disabled Keying
    .
    If you use
    Disabled Keying
    , take full responsibility for understanding whether the device you use can fulfill the functional requirements of the application.

  • To open the profile of a device, in
    Device list
    , right-click the device and select
    Open device properties
