Create a self-signed certificate using IIS

The
FactoryTalk Activation Manager
WebSocket Service requires a Base-64 encoded X.509 certificate to secure communications. If you do not have a certificate provided by your organization, you can create one that is signed by the
FactoryTalk Activation Manager
computer itself. After creating a self-signed certificate, export it and configure
FactoryTalk Activation Manager
to use it with the WebSocket Service.
IMPORTANT: Either perform these steps or the OpenSSL create and export steps. Do not perform both.
  1. On the computer where
    FactoryTalk Activation Manager
    is installed, start
    IIS Manager
    .
  2. Select
    Server Certificates
    .
  3. Under
    Actions
    , select
    Create Self-Signed Certificate
    .
  4. In
    Create Self-Signed Certificate
, enter a name for the certificate.
  5. In
Select a certificate store for the new certificate
    , select
    Personal
    .
  6. Select
    OK
    .
The certificate is created and stored in the Current User Certificate Store.
