Businesses in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry have been dramatically affected by supply chain disruptions, the workforce shortage, inflation, and the pandemic. At the same time, they’ve been undergoing a significant evolution of how they operate and use technology.
Rockwell Automation, in association with Sapio Research, surveyed the broadest audience yet to create the 8th annual edition of the State of Smart Manufacturing report.
The results from this year’s research indicate that the biggest challenge facing these businesses is finding a sustainable balance between maintaining quality and achieving profitable growth – and that CPG manufacturers are keen to invest in technology to maintain business continuity.
- 78% of CPG manufacturers believe smart manufacturing very important to the future success of their business
- 42% of businesses are accelerating their digital transformation just to keep up with competitors, while 44% are doing so to improve quality
- 90% of CPG manufacturers expect to grow employment as a result of technology adoption
- Cloud technology and process automation were the top two technologies cited by CPG manufacturers as having the biggest ROI
