Instructor-led Course Catalog

Course Purpose

The Bulk Electrical System and Distributed Generation course is focused on the general arrangement of the electrical system, starting from utility and ending at the distribution level.

The course explains the distribution generation and the requirements to connect a green energy system or local micro generation system to the GRID including recommendations of protections to be used with typical topology of the power system.

Second part of the course is focused on the protection PRC standards, and the available protection for the major equipment: transformers; motors; generators busses; cables and other electrical components.

Objectives

After successfully completing the substation course the student will be able to:

  • Define an electrical subsystem as bulk electrical or distribution
  • Apply the PRC standards based on the bulk electrical system criteria
  • Implement the models to create the proper protection system using EasyPower
  • Perform protection coordination for specific substation
  • Create TCC -Time Current Curve for the Substation

Jobs related to the Substation Course:

  • Substation Engineering
  • Protection Engineer
  • Substation Operator
  • Switching Authority
  • Contract Manager working on a Substation Project
  • Electrical Inspector
  • District and Zone Managers

Who Should Attend

The Substation Course is dedicated but not limited to the following qualified individuals:

  • Electrical Power Engineer
  • Licensed Electricians
  • Managers that must understand the Power Systems of the Substations
  • Electrical Safety Inspectors
  • Any other individuals who are interested in this subject
  • Electrical Operators
  • District and Zone Managers

Hardware/Software Requirements

Students should bring a personal computer with Windows 10 (4GB RAM, 20GB Hard drive free space) and have access to highspeed internet when attending this course.
