EtherNet/IP Network
The controller operates on
EtherNet/IP™
networks. Before your controller can operate on an EtherNet/IP™
network, you must first configure the driver in FactoryTalk® Linx
software. For information on how to configure EtherNet/IP™

EtherNet/IP™
network offers a full suite of control, configuration, and data collection services by layering the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP™
) over the standard Internet protocols, such as TCP/IP and UDP. This combination of well-accepted standards provides the capability that is required to support information data exchange and control applications. The controllers use socket interface transactions and conventional communication over the
EtherNet/IP™
network to communicate with Ethernet devices that do not support the EtherNet/IP™
application protocol.
IMPORTANT:
With
ControlLogix®
5590 controllers, the Ethernet ports on the controller itself are labeled 1 and 2. In programming and communication software, the ports are described as A1 and A2.EtherNet/IP Network Functionality
The controllers support the following:

- Dual-IP mode (Default)
- Linear/DLR mode
- Support for theseEtherNet/IP™network topologies:
- Device Level Ring (DLR)
- Linear
- Star
- Support for theseEtherNet/IP™network communication rates:
- 10 Mbps
- 100 Mbps
- 1 Gbps
- Support for only full-duplex operation
- Support forCIP Sync™technology that is based on Time Synchronization using the IEEE-1588 Precision Time Protocol
- Duplicate IP address detection
ATTENTION:
10 Mbps Ethernet automatic negotiations are functional, however, they are not fully supported or intended for normal use. Use 10 Mbps Ethernet connections, only if necessary, during temporary setup.
