Update module firmware
Perform firmware updates to ensure the modules have latest firmware version installed.
To update the module firmware:
- Select the modules that require a firmware update, or clickSelect Allto select all modules in the list. ClickClear Allif you want to deselect all modules.Modules that need firmware updates display as selected [ ] in this Grid view based on the following rules:
- Controller - major revision of the firmware does not match
- Motion Module - major revision of the firmware does not match Or - minor revision of the firmware does not match, and the module's Electronic Keying is set as Exact Match.
- Sercos Drive - major revision of the firmware does not match Or - minor revision of the firmware does not match, and the module's Electronic Keying set as Exact Match.
- CIP Motion Drives - major revision of firmware does not match Or - minor revision of the firmware does not match, and the module's Electronic Keying is set as Exact Match.
- For each selected module, from theUpdate Tocolumn, select a compatible revision from the list.Only the updates compatible with the version of software you are running appear in the table. TheIn Modulecolumn lists the current revision of firmware in the module.You can also clickBrowseto navigate to a specific directory.
- ClickUpdateto start the flash upgrade. The firmware updates are completed in the order listed in the dialog box, beginning with the controller. Sercos Drives are listed under their parent 1756-Sercos Module, and are in alphabetical order sorted by the module name of the drive.
- To update Rockwell Automation Sercos Drives via ControlFLASH™, the 1756-Sercos module must be at least at Ring Phase=2, and Sercos ring connection must be maintained. The Sercos Drive LED will show Phase=5 during the Flash update period.
- Acknowledge the following warning dialog box.IMPORTANT: Do Not Remove Power While Updating Flash -- Motion On Any Axis on the Ring Will Be Stopped While Flashing for each and every Sercos Drive that is to be updated via this Update Module Firmware method.To make use of the Flash update of the Rockwell Automation Sercos Drives:
- The Logix 1756-MxxSE module must have at minimum firmware revision 15.06, and
- The Kinetix Sercos drives must have revision 1.85 or higher,
- The 8720MC Sercos drives must have revision 3.85 or higher,
- The Ultra Sercos drives must have revision 1.50 or higher.
