Commission your motor control center and manufacturing applications faster

Setting up and operating motor control centers (MCCs) is a complex and demanding task.

Engineers can encounter time-consuming manual configuration, limited system visibility and troubleshooting delays. Plus, safety concerns, unplanned downtime and difficulty scaling or updating MCC systems can further complicate the picture. Obstacles not only reduce productivity but also increase the risk of errors.

Reducing these pain points, IntelliCENTER® technology can transform motor control center configuration and maintenance by streamlining setup, enhancing visibility and enabling smarter, safer maintenance. And at the heart of these capabilities are the powerful datasets that drive them.

IntelliCENTER motor control center software: The ultimate window into your MCC

IntelliCENTER software uses datasets to create a digital representation of your motor control center giving your team a graphical elevation view of your entire motor control center lineup. The configurable views provide at-a-glance system status and help reduce downtime with easy access to fault data, remote diagnostics, electronic documentation and more.

  • You have visibility to and can manage your connected motor control system through a secure web browser with FactoryTalk® Design Studio™
  • Make it easier for engineers to see and understand what’s happening with an intuitive, visual elevation view that provides a graphic representation of the MCC lineup, with real-time data for all connected devices
  • Status indicators display the condition of each motor control device so you can see what’s running, faulted or alarmed
  • The display can identify problems and support proactive maintenance – often without needing to visit the equipment in person

To enable full functionality, two IntelliCENTER datasets need to be ordered with your MCC and uploaded:

Pre-integration dataset: Accelerate motor control center startup

Device configuration is often a manual, time-consuming task that can lead to errors. Rockwell Automation streamlines this process with a solution that automates the work.

When you order a dataset with a CENTERLINE® or FLEXLINE™ motor control center featuring IntelliCENTER technology, you’ll receive a pre-integration dataset as a digital download. The dataset includes essential details tailored to your specific MCC, including device details, such as the type of equipment included in your MCC lineup (for example, an E300 or PowerFlex 753 VFD) to create your motor control center elevation and layout. This helps engineers integrate their MCC devices with Logix controllers – potentially saving hundreds of engineering hours on large-scale projects.

Post-shipment dataset: Load critical device details and documentation

Once your lineup is built, the post-shipment IntelliCENTER dataset includes details about the actual hardware delivered—such as serial numbers, firmware versions and other device-level data. In addition, it includes complete drawings and manuals for each smart device in the motor control center. After uploading this information, you can see:

  • Components in each MCC bucket: Product specifications for each smart component, including overload relays, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and Ethernet switches
  • MCC bucket configuration: The layout of your motor control center, including nameplate information for individual motor control units
  • Operational device data: Real-time monitoring data on connected smart motor control equipment. This includes starter and VFD health, maintenance alerts and system performance
  • Protective settings: Parameters for configuring overload relay settings and visibility to fault and alarm conditions
  • Drawings: Complete electrical schematics for all units in your MCC lineup
  • Documentation: A library of manuals and spare parts lists to assist with troubleshooting units in the MCC lineup
  • Control Logic: Easy integration with Rockwell Automation controllers as part of FactoryTalk® Design Studio™

From Data to Decisions: The Power of an Intelligent MCC

By importing IntelliCENTER datasets into the MCC software, you transform raw data into actionable insights – delivering operational, maintenance, and cost-saving advantages that keep your plant running smarter and more reliably.

  • Validate design and engineering: Create and validate the MCC design, reducing project risks and engineering time
  • Real-time visibility: See the status of every connected device at-a-glance, so you know what’s running, faulted, or alarmed without walking to the equipment
  • Reduce operational costs: Predictive and proactive maintenance improves uptime by receiving real-time information on equipment health and potential failures. Reduce emergency repair costs
  • Increase system reliability and uptime: Real-time system performance data helps prevent unexpected failures and enables early fault detection. This increases uptime that continual-operation industries rely on

Improve safety – reduce arc flash hazards with remote MCC monitoring

IntelliCENTER motor control center software can also remotely monitor the status of networked devices from the safety of the control room – to help protect your workforce from exposure to electric arc flash hazards. As a result, engineers can troubleshoot and diagnose your motor control devices without approaching the energized motor control equipment.

Scalable for the future

As your MCC needs evolve – whether adding new sections or upgrading devices – you can purchase incremental IntelliCENTER datasets that include the new information. These updates integrate with your existing lineup, confirming your system view remains current and easy to maintain.

A practical first step into factory automation

IntelliCENTER technology is an ideal entry point for organizations beginning their industrial automation journey. Many manufacturers are exploring ways to modernize their operations, and IntelliCENTER software – now integrated within FactoryTalk® Design Studio™ – offers an easy entry point. There’s no need for complex installations or manual updates. IntelliCENTER is now accessible through a user-friendly, web-based application.

This makes it a practical and cost-effective starting point for automation, especially for facilities that already have some Ethernet infrastructure in place. Even in plants that aren’t fully digital, MCCs equipped with IntelliCENTER technology help advance automation and improve operational efficiency.

Start with a single dataset and scale over time, confident that future additions will integrate seamlessly. This scalability – combined with the ability to connect motor control into an integrated architecture – lets manufacturers build smarter, more connected operations with flexibility and growth in mind.
