Set up an alternate location for HMI project files
To set up HMI project files on an alternate server computer, first make sure that Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and the
FactoryTalk View SE
Server software are installed on the computer. If you need to install the software, see the FactoryTalk View
Site Edition Installation Guide.After ensuring that the necessary software is installed, set up a location for the HMI project files on the alternate server computer, back up the project files on the HMI server computer and copy them to the alternate server computer.
To set up an alternate location for HMI project files:
- On the alternate server computer, in Windows Explorer, create a folder namedProxy. This folder should be stored in\Users\Public\Public Documents\RSView Enterprise\SE\Proxy.
- On the desktop, right-click theComputericon, and then clickManage. If the icon is not visible on the desktop, add it usingPersonalize.
- In theComputer Managementwindow, double-clickServices and Applicationsand then clickInternet Information Services (IIS) Manager.
- In theConnectionswindow, double-click the computer icon and thenSites, to display theDefault Web Site.
- Right-click theDefault Web Siteand then clickAdd Virtual Directory.
- In theAdd Virtual Directorydialog box, in theAliasfield, typeRSViewSE_Proxyand click the browse button(...)to go to the previously-createdProxypath.
- ClickOKto close the dialog box, and then close theComputer Managementwindow.
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to theProxyfolder and right-click the folder. In theSecuritytab of theProxy Propertiesdialog box, make sure you have granted full control permissions to the following users or groups. For instructions about managing permissions, refer to Microsoft Help.

- INTERACTIVE
- LOCAL SERVICE
- SYSTEM
- When complete, clickOKto close theProxy Propertiesdialog box.
- In Windows Explorer, under theProxyfolder, create these subfolders:\<HMIServerName>\RSViewSEwhere<HMIServerName>is the name of the HMI server computer.
- On the HMI server computer, in Windows, selectStart > Rockwell Software > HMI Server Backup and Restore, to open the tool.
- Use theHMI Server Backup and Restoretool to select and create a copy of the HMI server project files and folder.
- On the alternate server computer, use theHMI Server Backup and Restoretool to restore the HMI server project files and folder to the subfolder you created in step 10.
- If you are creating alternate locations for multiple HMI servers, repeat steps 10 to 12 for each HMI server in the application.
