Router registration, connection and configuration
The router system software is designed to require just a few mandatory settings in order to reduce manual configuration as much as possible. In fact, the VPN and Ethernet interfaces configuration is already defined in the factory default settings. Nevertheless, you are required to configure specific manual settings, such as: network interfaces IP addresses, connection mode, and domain registration.
Once configured, the router connects to the Server Infrastructure and can be detected by
FactoryTalk Remote Access Manager
.Prior to getting started with the router configuration, you will have to register it.
Router registration to domain
- Ensure that the router is wired through its WAN port to the local network to which theFactoryTalk Remote Access Manageris connected.
- Ensure the router is turned on.
- AccessFactoryTalk Remote Access Managerand the section.
- Select the folder in which you wish to store your router and click on theAdd resource(circled plus) button nearby.
- Select.NOTE: If noFactoryTalk Remote AccessTools were previously installed, you will be prompted to install them through a pop-up window.
- TheDevice RegistrationTool opens up and you will be prompted to enter a username and a password:
- If the router is new, both username and password are namedadmin. Immediately after log in, you will be prompted to change your password prior to registering the router to the domain.NOTE: You can change the router password anytime through the router System Manager, in theUserssection. Reboot your router upon any password change.NOTE: Choose a password that contains:
- At least one uppercase character
- At least one lowercase character
- At least one numeric character
- At least one symbol
- If the router is not new, the username is namedadmin, whereas the password shall match the one stored in the router System Manager, in theUserssection.
- TheDevice RegistrationTool returns the MAC addresses of the devices discovered on the network.

- Select the MAC address of the device that you wish to register and name it.
- Selectand reboot your router.
- Once the device is registered, it connects to the Access Server and automatically detects to which domain and environment it is registered.
Router connection and configuration
A router can be configured through its System Manager.
- AccessFactoryTalk Remote Access Managerand .
- Enable the online toggle switch and in theDomain viewleft pane select the online router that you wish to configure.
- Select theVPNbutton.
- TheInteractive AccessTool opens and a VPN connection is established.
- Enter the router LAN IP address that you find on the right pane of theInteractive Accessscreen into a browser to access the router System Manager. You will be prompted to enter username and password.
