Configure a web presentation engine

Create a web presentation engine to run
FactoryTalk Optix
as a service on the runtime device or as an application for web client interaction. Running
FactoryTalk Optix
as a service automatically starts the deployed application with or without a user interface. Use this mode when no local operator is present on the runtime device.
  1. In
    Project view
    , right-click
    UI
    and select
    New
    Web presentation engine
    .
  2. In
    Properties
    , make any necessary changes:
    • Dynamic variables polling time
. Specifies the time interval between variable readings.
    • Protocol
. Defines the protocol for communication between web clients and the web server. Either
      http
      or
      https
      . If you selected
      https
      , configure
      Certificate file
      and
      Private key file
      under
      SSL certificate
      .
      TIP: To make
      FactoryTalk Optix Applications
running as Progressive Web Apps (workstation clients) available in the network, use the HTTPS protocol. You can only use HTTP for local development of workstation clients.
    • IP address
. Sets the address for the web server to listen on. Must be a valid IP address of a local device.
      TIP: Set
      0.0.0.0
to make the web server listen on all available addresses of the local machine. Set a specific address other than
      0.0.0.0
to ignore requests to local addresses different from the entered one.
    • Port
. Specifies the port for communication between web clients and the web server.
IMPORTANT: In a High Availability deployment, this value must exactly match the cluster web port configured in the High Availability Manager
      Ports
step during installation. The default port is
      80
      for
      http
      and
      443
      for
      https
. Client traffic reaches the cluster through the Virtual IP and is forwarded to the Active node. If this port does not match, WebPresentationEngine does not receive that traffic. For more information, see Configure and deploy a High Availability project.
    • Hostname
. Used to generate a self-signed certificate for the HTTPS protocol. If empty, the certificate is generated based on the machine name.
    • Maximum number of web connections
. Sets the maximum number of web clients that can connect to the web server.
    • Maximum number of workstation connections
. Sets the maximum number of Workstation clients that can connect to the web server.
    • Allowed remote sources
. Lists remote sources that you can load or use to access the current resource. Accepted formats include the name of an Internet host or IP address. URL pattern, port number, and path are optional. Wildcards (*) such as *.example.com allow subdomains, host addresses, and port numbers.
      TIP: Enter
      Allowed remote sources
to specify which URLs can embed the current resource. Allowed remote sources provide greater security and control when loading and accessing remote resources.
    • Enable automation IDs
. Enables automated IDs for automated testing.
    • Allowed local sources
. Lists file extensions served by the
      WebPresentationEngine
. The minimum required configuration is:
      *.html, *.css, *.js, *.ttf
To set default safe values, right-click the field and select
      Set default safe values
      .
The following default values are available:

        images
*.png, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.gif, *.bmp, *.svg

        video
*.avi, *.mov, *.mkv, *.mpg, *.mp4, *.wmv

        text files
        *.pdf

        font files
        *.ttf, *.otf

        web files
        *.html, *.css, *.js

      Follow these conventions:
      • You can use specific file names, such as
        myfile.txt
      • You can use wildcards (
        *
) to match patterns. For example,
        file*.txt
        matches
        file1.txt
        ,
        file123.txt
        , and others.
      • The following folders restrict access:
        /projectfiles/netsolution
        ,
        /projectfiles/pki
        ,
        /applicationfiles/
        .
      • All rules are case insensitive.
      TIP: Using
      *
to share all files triggers a warning during deployment and logs during execution.
    • Allow unauthenticated file upload
. Allows users who are not signed in to upload files to
      FactoryTalk Optix Applications
      .
    • LoginWindow
. Specifies the login window type that opens when you start a session and no user has logged in.
    • Virtual keyboard
. Selects the default virtual keyboard.
    • Start window
. Defines the window object type created at the start of a session.
    • Starting user
. Sets the user that authenticates the session.
    • Style sheet
      . Styles graphic objects.
    • Session
. Specifies the UI Session object to use.
