Device definition parameters (bridge devices)

Device definition
includes these parameters.
TIP:
The parameters and values are based on the device being configured. The parameters and values that do not apply to the device are hidden.
Parameter
Description
Device type
Displays the device catalog number and type.
Change type
Select to change the device type and revision.
Name
Enter an IEC 61131 compliant device name.
If an invalid character is entered in this field, or if the name exceeds 40 characters, the software ignores the character.
Description
Enter the description of the device.
Tip
: The description must be within 128 characters. If the description exceeds the maximum length, the software ignores any extra characters.
Ethernet Address
Specifies the IP configuration for the device. Possible options include:
  • Private network
    - Select the value from 1 to 254.
  • IP address
    - Enter a unique IP address to identify each node on the IP network.
  • Host name
    - Enter a fully qualified domain name, such as device.yourcompany.com.
Ethernet Address Module 1
Ethernet Address Module 2
Specifies the ethernet address for Module 1 and Module 2. These two parameters are only available when the criteria are met:
  • Device is in Scanner mode.
  • Redundancy
    is set to
    Chassis Pair
    .
  • Concurrent
    is set to
    Yes
    .
Slot
Specify the slot number where the device resides. Only slots between 1 and the maximum number of I/O devices are valid depending on the platform.
When the device is created, the slot number defaults to the first available slot position.
When the controller is changed to one supporting a smaller maximum I/O count, the current slot value may no longer be valid.
Module A/B Slot
Specifies the slot number where Module A or Module B resides.
Series
Specifies the series of the device.
Revision
Specifies the major and minor revisions of the device. The valid range for minor revision is from 1 through 255.
Electronic keying
Defines the electronic keying used for the device. Electronic keying compares the device defined in the project to the installed device. If keying fails, a fault occurs.
Valid values include:
  • Exact Match
  • Compatible Module
  • Disable Keying
For detailed information on Electronic keying, see Electronic Keying in
Logix5000
Control Systems Application Technique
, publication LOGIX-AT001.
Connection
Specifies the rack connection to communicate with the I/O device in the remote chassis. Valid values include:
  • None
    - Direct connection from the controller to the device.
  • Rack Optimization
    - Data is limited to the basic status and input data in order to optimize the number of connections via a Rack Connection.
  • Listen Only - Rack Optimization
    - An I/O connection where another controller owns/provides the configuration data for the device. A controller using a listen only connection does not write configuration. It can only establish a connection for the module when the owner controller is actively controlling.
Tip
: The available values depend on the device type.
Rack Optimization
and
Listen Only - Rack Optimization
are only available when the device is an adapter in the topology.
Rack Connection
Specifies the connection to communicate with the I/O devices in the remote chassis. Valid values include:
  • None
    - Direct connection from the controller to the device.
  • Data - Rack Optimized
    - Limits data to the basic status and input data to optimize the number of connections via a Rack Connection.
  • Listen Only - Data - Rack Optimized
    - An I/O connection where another controller owns/provides the configuration data for the device. A controller using a listen only connection does not write configuration. It can only establish a connection for the device when the owner controller is actively controlling.
Tip
:
Data - Rack Optimized
and
Listen Only - Data - Rack Optimized
are only available when the device is an adapter in the topology.
Time Sync Connection
Specifies the connection for the device that support Precision Time Protocol (PTP) synchronization. Valid values include:
  • None
    - Disables motion and time synchronization in the device.
  • Time Sync and Motion
    - Enables motion and time synchronization in the device.
Time Sync and Motion Connection
Specifies the connection for the device that support Precision Time Protocol (PTP) synchronization. Valid values include:
  • No
    - Disables motion and time synchronization in the device.
  • Yes
    - Enables motion and time synchronization in the device.
Concurrent Communications
Valid values include:
  • No
    - Standard Forward Open.
  • Yes
    - Concurrent Forward Open.
Redundant
Indicates whether the device supports controller redundancy. Valid values include:
  • No
  • Chassis Pair
  • Adapter Pair
Status Connection
Specifies the status connect for the device. Valid values include:
  • No
    - No status connection from controller to the device.
  • Yes
    - An Status input connection to the device, used to send bridge/adapter status to the controller.
Network Mode
Possible options include:
  • Device Level Ring (DLR)
  • Parallel Redundancy Protocol
    (PRP)
SIL2 Safety
Indicates whether SIL2 Safety is enabled on the device.
Chassis size
Sets the chassis size of the rack that contains the adapter bridge device. Only the valid chassis sizes are displayed.
The chassis size cannot be set to a size that is less than the last device in the chassis.
Tip
:
Chassis size
is only available when the device is an adapter in the topology.
