The JXC91 series Ethernet/IP stepper controller with absolute encoder adds functionality to SMC’s existing electric actuator product line. With an absolute encoder, the actuator will not have to returned to origin (homed) on a power loss or E-stop situation. An actuator can be restarted from its last position without having to return to a safe state in a known sequence. These homing operations are also usually accomplished using slow movement, adding to the recovery time. The absolute encoder motor is used in multiple types of actuators, including linear, rotary, and gripper actuators. In addition to Ethernet/IP, the controller is also available with DeviceNET, IO-Link, and discrete I/O.
