Use drag-and-drop to move items in the Logical Organizer

You can use drag-and-drop to move items in the Logical Organizer.
The following items allow drag and drop in the
Logical Organizer
:
  • Programs, routines, and folders in the
    Logical Organizer
    .
  • Programs and folders from one Logix Designer project to a different project in a different copy of the Logix Designer application.
The following items do not support drag-and-drop in the
Logical Organizer
:
  • All plain folders (the root and the
    Logic and Tags
    folders)
  • Programs parameters and local tags
The following table shows which items you can drag to which targets.

This enables you to create a logical model that is organized in terms of procedures, objects, functions, equipment, or other more natural terms and concepts. You can then use drag-and-drop to apply this logical model to the
Controller Organizer
.
Moving an item in the
Logical Organizer
has these effects:
  • It changes the
    Logical Organization
(called the logical model) by moving the item under a new parent item.
  • If you use drag-and-drop to move an item in the
    Logical Organizer
, it does not change the scheduling of any programs in the
    Controller Organizer
    .
  • If there are any descendant items under the moved item, they are also moved with the item.
    TIP:
If FactoryTalk Security is enabled, FactoryTalk Security permissions are required to create and delete items in the
    Controller Organizer
    and the
    Logical Organizer
    .
Restrictions:
  • You cannot drag-and-drop a standard or Safety item onto another Safety program when in Safety Lock.
  • You cannot drag-and-drop an item (or an item with descendant items) if doing so exceeds the limit of 15 hierarchy levels, or exceeds the child program limit of 1,000 at the target item.
  • You cannot drag-and-drop the root (highest) folder or the
    Logic and Tags
    folder.
  • You cannot insert programs or folders between targets that are ordered alphabetically, such as the children of the root folder.
  • You cannot use drag-and-drop operations if the system is in hard run or has a major fault.
