Nonvolatile Memory Load/Store dialog box

Use the
Nonvolatile Memory Load/Store
dialog box to:
  • View the current and stored controller image.
  • Store a project in memory card.
  • Load a project from the memory card.
  • Enable Firmware Supervisor to automatically load firmware when you replace a device in the system.
  • If a safety application is stored on the card, view the safety-lock status and safety task signature.
    TIP:
When you open this dialog box, the
    Logix Designer
application locks the controller so other users can not interrupt your load or store operation.
TIP: To open the Nonvolatile Memory Load/Store dialog:
  1. On the
    Online
    toolbar, click the
    Controller Properties
    icon.
  2. On the
    Controller Properties
    dialog box, click the
    Nonvolatile Memory
    tab, and click
    Load/Store
    .
Parameters
Description
Image in Nonvolatile Memory
Parameters pertaining to the image stored in nonvolatile memory on the controller.
Controller
Parameters pertaining to the current image in the controller.
Name
The name of the stored controller image that resides in nonvolatile memory or the project that resides in controller memory.
Type
Name of the controller.
Revision
The firmware revision.
In order for the image in nonvolatile memory to be loaded back into controller memory, the firmware revision of that image must match the revision of the controller.
Load Image
The condition under which the image stored in nonvolatile memory is loaded back to controller memory.
  • On Corrupt Memory
    – Load image when the controller has lost the project and you turn on or cycle power on the chassis. If you are using a battery on the controller, the load occurs only if the battery has failed to maintain the project during a loss of power.
  • On Power Up
    – Load image when you turn on or cycle power on the chassis. If you are using a battery on the controller, the load occurs even if the battery has maintained the project during loss of power.
  • User Initiated
    – Load only through the
    Logix Designer
    application.
Load Mode
The mode the controller enters upon loading from nonvolatile memory. This parameter is unavailable when
Load Image
is set to
User Initiated
.
  • Program (Remote Only)
  • Run (Remote Only)
The
Load Mode
only applies if the controller keyswitch is in the remote position when loading. If the controller keyswitch is in Run or Program, the controller will return to that mode once the load is complete. The controller key switch always has priority over the
Load Mode
.
Safety Application
The nonvolatile memory safety lock status (locked or unlocked).
This parameter is available when you are online or connected with a controller that has a nonvolatile memory card containing a Safety controller application.
Safety Signature
The nonvolatile memory Safety task signature status (ID, Date, and Time).
Tip:
Compact GuardLogix
5380 and
GuardLogix
5580 controllers
have a 32 byte ID. Only the first 4 bytes of the ID display
in the dialog box, click Browse button to view and copy the entire 32 byte ID.
This parameter is available when you are online or connected to a controller with a nonvolatile memory card that contains a Safety controller application. An
Information
icon appears if there is a status message to display.
Browse button
Opens the
Safety Signature ID
dialog box to view and copy the entire 32 byte ID for Compact GuardLogix 5380 and GuardLogix 5580 controllers.
This button is available only when online or connected to a
Compact GuardLogix
5380 or
GuardLogix
5580 controller
with a removable memory card that contains a Safety controller application and a Safety signature exists.
Image Note
Descriptive information about the image stored in nonvolatile memory. You may enter up to 128 text characters.
Automatic Firmware Update
Also referred to as Firmware Supervisor. Allows automatic firmware updates to modules in the I/O Configuration Tree that have electronic keying set to Exact Match.
  • Enable and Store Files to Image
    - Enables automatic firmware updates. Firmware files for the qualified projects are transferred from the workstation to the controller's nonvolatile memory.
  • Disable and Delete Files from Image
    - Disables automatic firmware updates and removes any I/O firmware files that are stored with the image.
  • Disable
    - Disable automatic firmware update when there are no firmware files stored with the image.
Tip:
Firmware Supervisor only supports firmware with the NVS and BIN file format. Starting in December 2015, firmware for modules may be provided in a new Device Management Kit (DMK) file format, for example, 1756-L73_28.011.dmk.
To use Firmware Supervisor with hardware modules whose firmware is provided in a DMK file format, you must first extract the NVS and BIN files from the DMK using the DMK Extraction Tool that is installed with
ControlFLASH
v13.00. Refer to the
ControlFLASH
online help for instructions on how to use the DMK Extraction Tool.
Stored
The date and time the image was stored in nonvolatile memory.
Load
Opens the
Load
dialog box to load the nonvolatile memory image into controller memory. This button is unavailable when:
  • No stored controller image is available.
  • There is a controller type mismatch.
  • There is a controller revision mismatch.
  • The controller is in
    Run Mode
    .
Store
Opens the
Store
dialog box to store the controller memory to nonvolatile memory. This button is unavailable when:
  • No controller or stored controller image is present.
  • The controller is in
    Run Mode
    .
Status Bar
Shows the reason the
Load
and
Store
buttons are unavailable. Only shows one status at a time.
