Add an Unassigned I/O Device to a Safety Controller

You can add devices to the Unassigned folder and then assign devices to a controller as the safety project develops. You can also use the Unassigned folder to move devices between controllers.
IMPORTANT: Unassigned safety I/O devices do not have a Safety Network Number (SNN).
FactoryTalk® Design Studio
automatically generates the SNN when you assign the safety I/O device to a safety controller.
  1. In Devices explorer, right-click the Unassigned folder and select New device...
  2. In the Assign Devices To dialog, under Category filter, select Safety.
  3. In the Add Devices To dialog, select the devices you want to add.
