Fifty Rockwell Automation employees from the company’s Milwaukee and Mequon campuses volunteered to assemble more than 500 laundry and linen kits this week. The kits will be distributed to individuals experiencing homelessness and those moving to more permanent housing as part of the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County’s Safe and Stable Homes initiative.

“I was thrilled to learn about this project,” Rockwell’s United Way Campaign executive co-sponsor Mike Melzer said. “The ingenuity to create this opportunity speaks to who we are at Rockwell and our commitment to make our community stronger. “

Volunteers drove up to collect pre-bundled kits at Rockwell Automation’s global headquarters in Milwaukee and returned fully assembled packages to the United Way’s Milwaukee office. Each kit contains laundry soap packets, hand towels, laundry bags, stain sticks, and quarters so recipients and their families can focus on setting up their new home, gaining employment, and helping their children with distance learning instead of worrying about how to meet their most basic needs.

“Many of us may not have realized until this project how prevalent homelessness and housing issues are in the communities where we live and work,” said Greg Gernert, who is also co-chairing the campaign effort. “This is just one way where we can come together to help make a difference for so many local families in need.”
