Network Device Requirements and Restrictions

Network devices in a high availability system that is
CIP Security
-enabled have the following requirements and restrictions.

Cannot Connect I/O Devices Through a Secured 1756-EN4TR Module

You cannot connect I/O devices to the 1756-EN4TR communication module that is
CIP Security
-enabled. You must use separate communication modules to connect I/O devices to the redundant chassis pair. Communication modules that are not
CIP Security
-enabled are not required to be 1756-EN4TR modules.
Cannot Connect Remote I/O to a Secured Communication Module
System architecture that restricts connection between secured 1756-EN4TR and remote
            I/O devices

CIP Security is Not Supported on Redundant Adapter Pairs

You cannot deploy the security policy to 1756-EN4TR communication modules in a redundant adapter pair (RAP). You must deploy the security policy to a dedicated 1756-EN4TR communication module.
You can include 1756-EN4TR communication modules that are configured as a RAP in the same chassis as a
CIP Security
-enabled communication module as long as the modules in the RAP are not
CIP Security
-enabled.
For more information redundant adapter pairs, see the ControlLogix EtherNet/IP Network Devices User Manual, publication 1756-UM004.
