Handling split feeds

Split feeds occur when a material phase step does not add or distribute all the material configured by the step. By default, the batch is HELD and the Material Server calculates and sends new AMOUNT parameters to the
FactoryTalk Batch
 Server. To resume processing, the operator must:
  1. Perform an active step change away from the unfinished step.
  2. Manually rebind the unfinished step.
  3. Perform an active step change back.
  4. Restart the batch.
If you want the batch to automatically process a split feed, you must disable the
Hold on Split Feed
 option.
TIP: Disable the
Hold on Split Feed
 option in the
FactoryTalk Administration Console Explorer
. Right-click an application or area name to either add a server or edit an existing one. To add a server, select
Add New Server
FactoryTalk Batch Server
. Set the
Hold on Split Feed
 by opening the
FactoryTalk Batch Services Properties
 dialog
> General
 tab. In the
Material policies
 area, clear the
Hold on Split Feed
 checkbox.
This creates a loop in the recipe so that the binding process can select another container for material additions. You can add a material loop to your recipe with the
Create Material Loop
 button in the
FactoryTalk Batch Recipe Editor
.
TIP: If you disable this option, batches may not get the expected material amounts unless you create material loops in the recipe for every enabled material. For information about using the

For material distributions, the Material Server does not try to decide whether a container might be full. To use the same recipe loop, you need an independent application to update the container selection priority so that a full container is not selected again.
