Motion Group Wizard/Motion Group - Attribute tab

Use this tab to modify the group attributes. When the Logix Designer application is online, all of the attributes on this tab transition to a read-only state. When an attribute transitions to a read-only state, all pending attribute changes are reverted.
Parameters
Base Update Period
Sets the primary base update period for the group.
Change the base update period in 0.5 increments. The valid range is from 0.5 through 32.
If you enter a value outside of the range, a warning opens and the value is reset to either 0.5 or 32, depending if you entered too small or too large a value.
You have the option to edit the base update period if the alternate 1 and alternate 2 update periods are the same value. If you change the base update period and click the
OK
or
Apply
button, the values for the alternate rates change to match the new base update period. If you access the Axis Schedule Panel and change the value of one or both of the alternate rates, then the base update period in this dialog box cannot be edited.
TIP: If the base update period is too small, the controller may not have time to execute non-motion related ladder logic. The execution time needed by the motion task depends on your controller model. The following times are suggested:
  • L6x: 1 ms for every 4 servo-axes
  • L7x: 1 ms for every 8 servo-axes
  • L8z: 1 ms for every 16-servo axes
The default lower limit on the base update period is 2.0 ms. The Logix Designer application generates a warning if the estimated utilization approaches the limits.
TIP: In versions 24 and later of the Logix Designer application, you can configure drives and their associated axes to run at different update rates. For more information, refer to the
Integrated Motion on the Ethernet/IP Network Configuration and Startup User Manual
(MOTION-UM003).
TIP: Use the Integrated Architecture Builder (IAB) to determine the performance information that is based on your system configuration, including Integrated Motion Update Rates.
Axis Schedule
Click this button to open the
Axis Schedule
dialog box.
In the
Axis Schedule
dialog box, you have the option to update the base update period and alternate 1 and alternate 2 periods, and to assign the axes to one of the update rate groups.
Alternate 1 Update
View the Alternate 1 update period.
This field shows the update period that you configured in the
Axis Schedule
dialog box. By default, the Alternate Update Period is set to the same value as the Base Update Period. This field is read-only.
Alternate 2 Update
View the Alternate 2 update period.
This field shows the update period that you configured in the
Axis Schedule
dialog box. By default, the Alternate Update Period is set to the same value as the Base Update Period. This field is read-only.
General Fault Type
Selects the general fault type mechanism for the motion group. The available selections are:
  • Non Major Fault - Any faults detected by the motion group does not cause the processor to fault. The application programmer needs to handle the fault in the program.
  • Major Fault - Any faults detected by the motion group causes the processor OK light to start blinking red and the fault routine to be invoked. If the fault routine handles the fault and clears it, then the OK light turns green. If the fault routine does not clear the fault, then the OK light becomes solid red and the controller stops executing the program.
Timing Model
Determines the timing model based on the controller and axis types. The timing model is set by the Logix Designer application and cannot be changed. The following table lists the settings based on controller and axis type combinations:
