RSLinx Classic stops updating data from a controller
There are several conditions that may cause RSLinx Classic to stop updating data from a controller and display "Error!" for all tags from that controller. These include the following:
- You remove a controller and replace it with a different controller.
- You cycle the power for a controller off and then on when the controller does not have a battery backup.
- You change the attributes for a tag on scan, and then download the changed program to the controller. The External Access attribute is different from other attributes (see below).
RSLinx Classic can start updating data again:
- To restore data service for an external application or client, you must shutdown and then restart both RSLinx Classic and the application or client.
- To restore the data display in the RSLinx Classic Data Table Monitor, right-click the Data Table Monitor and select Refresh.
External Access
You can use RSLinx 5000 to change the External Access setting for tags in a controller (if External Access is supported by the controller).
- Changing the External Access from Read/Write or Read Only to None hides the tag from external applications and clients. The Data Table Monitor displays "Out of Service" for the tag. You must refresh the Data Table Monitor to hide the tag (since it is no longer visible to RSLinx Classic or any client).
- Changing the External Access from None to Read/Write or Read Only makes the tag visible to external applications and clients. Note that the Data Table Monitor does not automatically display the tag. You must refresh the Data Table Monitor to make the tag appear in the list of tags for the controller.TIP:You can change the External Access attribute and then download the program to the controller without causing RSLinx Classic to stop updating data from all tags on scan.
