Configure advanced Ethernet port information

If you are configuring an Ethernet module with two or more Ethernet ports, such as 1756-EN2TR and 1783-ETAPxx, you can view (uploaded directly from the module) and configure advanced port information on the
Advanced Port Configuration
tab.
  1. In the
    Port
column, view the port label assigned by the device manufacturer.
    TIP:
This column cannot be edited. If an instance number (for example, Inst2) is displayed, the software was unable to retrieve a label from the EDS file or the device. To ensure that the correct value displays in this column, contact the device manufacturer and request the latest EDS file or firmware update for your device.
  2. In the
    Enable
column, view if the port is enabled or disabled. To enable a port, select the
    Enable
check box. To disable a port, clear the
    Enable
check box for that port. This column does not appear for modules that do not support enabling/disabling ports (such as the Stratix 8000).
    TIP:
If you disable a port, you can negatively impact the networks ability to function.
When disabling a port, be careful not to disable the port you are currently working on. Doing so will cause you to lose communication to the network.
If a specific port is disabled, the values for all of the other columns (excluding Port) are not displayed.
  3. View the Link Status for port. If you are connected to an active link,
    Active
    is displayed; otherwise
    Inactive
    is displayed.
TIP: This column cannot be edited.
  4. In the
    Auto Negotiate
    column, view the
    Auto Negotiate
setting for the port. When the
    Auto Negotiate
check box is selected, the port speed and duplex values are automatically read from the device (these values cannot be edited). If you want to edit the port speed and duplex values, clear the
    Auto Negotiate
check box and follow these steps:
    1. In the
      Speed Selected
column, select the port speed (10 Mbps or 100 Mbps). The
      Speed Current
column displays the current port speed (obtained from the module) and cannot be edited.
    2. In the
      Duplex Selected
column, select the duplex configuration mode (Half or Full). The
      Duplex Current
column displays the current duplex configuration mode (obtained from the module) and cannot be edited.
  5. Once you have viewed and configured the advanced port information, click
    Apply.
All changes will be downloaded to the module.
    TIP:
If you chose to manually select the port speed and duplex values in step 4, clicking
    Apply
will cause network communication to be briefly interrupted. For some devices, you must enter a password in order to save the changes if the device is configured to require a password.
  6. When complete, click
    OK
    .
