View the EDS parameters for a CIP-enabled device

To view the EDS parameters for a CIP-enabled device:
  1. Select
    Start > Rockwell Software > Device Description File Installation Tool
    . Follow the instructions on the screen to install the EDS file for the CIP-enabled device whose properties you want to view.
  2. Select
    DDE/OPC > Topic Configuration
    . The
    DDE/OPC Topic Configuration
    dialog box is displayed.
  3. Click
    New
    . A new topic is added to the Topic list.
  4. Enter a name for the topic.
  5. In RSWho, locate and click the CIP-enabled device whose EDS parameters you want to see.
  6. Click the
    Data Collection
    tab.
    1. Under Processor Type, click
      Device with EDS Parameters
      .
    2. If you are using an OPC client for data acquisition, under Polled Messages, enter 8640000. This allows the OPC client to better control the data update rate.
      If you are not using an OPC client for data acquisition, go to step c below.
    3. Under Limit Message Packets, change the setting to 1.
      TIP:
      Initially, enter a value of 1. Later, you can return to this dialog box and slowly increment the value until you reach a point where you are no longer getting data. At that time, you can then slowly decrement the value until you are receiving data again.
  7. Click
    Apply
    , and then click
    Done
    .
  8. Navigate to your client program (for example, RSView 32 or the OPC Test Client), and locate the topic name that you specified in step 4.
  9. Click that topic; the Offline branch is displayed.
  10. Click
    Offline
    ; all of the parameters for the CIP-enabled device specified in step 5 are displayed.
