Configure network DDE
Network DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) provides information-sharing capabilities by opening two one-way pipes between applications. Network DDE is an extension of DDE that can be used between two computers across the network.
Windows NT Network DDE services are not automatically started. They must be set up and started.
IMPORTANT:
You must have Windows NT administrator privileges to complete these procedures.
- Start the Control Panel and double-click theServicesicon.
- SelectNetwork DDEfrom the list.
- ClickStartupto open aServicedialog box.
- Enable Automatic in theStartup Typesection, and clickOKto return to theServicesdialog box.
- ClickStart.
- SelectNetwork DDE DSDMfrom the list.
- ClickStartup.
- Enable Automatic in theStartup Typesection, and clickOKto return to theServicesdialog box.
- If Services is not running, clickStart.
- ClickCloseto exit the Services dialog box and return to Control Panel.
- Select the Run menu item to display a Run dialog box.
- TypeDDESHARE.EXEin the Command Line combo box. A DDE Shares dialog box opens.
- SelectDDE Sharesby double-clicking the icon, or select Shares menu item. A DDE Shares dialog box opens.
- ClickAdd a Share. A DDE Share Properties dialog box opens.
- In theShare Namebox, enter a name of your choice to remember this NetDDE share. The name should be one that identifies
- Enter theApplicationandTopicwithin the Static boxes. For RSLinx Classic, the application is RSLINX and the DDE/OPC topic you want to use.
- Select theAllow start applicationcheck box and clickOKto return to theDDE Share Propertiesdialog box.
- Highlight the DDE share name you just entered, and clickTrust Shareto open aTrusted Share Propertiesdialog box.
- Select theStart Application EnableandInitiate to Application Enablecheck boxes.
- ClickSet, and clickOKto return to theDDE Sharesdialog box.
- Close theDDE Sharesdialog box.
