Add a topic

To add a topic, perform the following steps:
  1. From the
    RSLinx Classic
     main menu, select
    DDE/OPC > Topic Configuration
    .
  2. From the
    DDE/OPC Topic Configuration
     dialog box, click
    New
    , or right-click the
    Topic List
     and select
    New
    . The default
    NEW_TOPIC
     is created.
  3. From the
    Data Source
     tab, browse to the target device for this topic.
  4. Enter a name for the new topic in the Topic List (49 characters at maximum).
  5. On the
    Data Collection
     or
    Advanced Communication
     tabs, enter specific information for the new topic.
    TIP:
    Do not give the same name to FactoryTalk Linx shortcuts and RSLinx Classic topics. If a shortcut has the same name as a topic, tags will not be displayed for one of them during a tag browse.
  6. Click
    Apply
     to add the new topic.
  7. If you enter any specific information for the new topic on the
    Data Collection
    or
    Advanced Communication
    tabs, and a message appears asking if you want to update the topic
    ,
    click
    Yes
    .
  8. When you are finished adding topics, click
    Done
     to close the
    DDE/OPC Topic Configuration
     dialog box.
    TIP:
    You can also right-click the target device in
    RSWho
    , select
    Configure New DDE/OPC Topic
    , and follow this procedure starting with Step 3.
