To configure the Windows Firewall

  1. Click
    Start > Control Panel >
    Windows
     Firewall
    .
  2. Click
    Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
    .
  3. Click
    Allow another app
    .
  4. To add the database engine service:
    1. In the
      Add an app
       dialog box, click
      Browse
      ,
      and then go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<Your SQL Server Instance Name>\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe.
    2. Click
      Open
      .
    3. Click
      Add
      .
  5. To add the browser service:
    1. In the
      Add an app
       dialog box, click
      Browse
      , and then go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlbrowser.exe.
    2. Click
      Open
      .
    3. Click
      Add
      .
  6. Click
    OK
