Share the FactoryTalk Linx virtual backplane with RSLinx Classic

The virtual backplane is a sharable component between
RSLinx Classic
and
FactoryTalk Linx
. If your
FactoryTalk Linx
configuration consists of a 1784-PCIC(S) driver, configure the driver in
FactoryTalk Linx
, and then add a virtual backplane to
RSLinx Classic
.
To share the
FactoryTalk Linx
virtual backplane with
RSLinx Classic
  1. Start either
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    or
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    , and click the
    Communications
    tab.
  2. On the communications tree, right-click the virtual backplane (
    1789-A17, Backplane
    ), and then click
    Properties
    .
    The
    Virtual Backplane Properties
    dialog box opens.
  3. Select
    Auto Configure
    and then click
    OK
    .
  4. Right-click
    FactoryTalk Linx
    and click
    Add Driver
    , and select the ControlNet driver (
    1784-PCIC(S)
    ) from the list.
    The
    ControlNet Properties
    dialog box opens.
  5. On the
    General
    tab, verify the information in the dialog box fields is correct, and click
    OK
    .
  6. Start
    RSLinx Classic
    , and click
    Communications > Configure Drivers
    . The
    Configure Drivers
    dialog box opens.
  7. From the
    Available Driver Types
    , click
    Virtual Backplane (SoftLogix58xx),
    and then click
    Add New
    .
  8. In the
    Add New RSLinx Classic Driver
    dialog box, enter a driver name or use the default name. Click
    OK
    .
  9. Click
    Close
    to close the
    Configure Drivers
    dialog box.
You now have connectivity for both
FactoryTalk Linx
and
RSLinx Classic
clients; the
FactoryTalk Linx
virtual backplane (1789-A17, Backplane) appears in
RSLinx Classic
.
If your local workstation is not displayed, restart the host computer.
