The software module that is responsible for performing core run-time operations such as data collection, alarm detection, historical data logging and retrieval, and for providing FactoryTalk View SE Clients with graphic displays, runtime data, and events.

Module Control Byte (MCB)
One byte of data that is used to initiate/control a block transfer. Each block transfer must reserve a unique byte location in the discrete output image for its MCB.
module group (Remote I/O)
Each word of input data has a corresponding word of output data, and these data pairs are referred to as module groups within a Remote I/O configuration.

offline data item
A data item (tag) whose server is not currently available but whose name is still available for browsing, selection, and use. Offline data items are read directly from a controller's project file.
online data item
A data item (tag) whose server is currently available to supply data. Online data items are read directly from a controller, just as they are defined in that controller.
