D-E

- D -
design topology
A network topology associated with a design platform.
device-based alarm and event detection
Logix Designer
application alarm detection instructions are programmed into a
ControlLogix
controller. The controller detects events and alarm conditions and notifies
FactoryTalk Linx
(in other words, Rockwell Automation Device Server) of alarm states.
FactoryTalk Linx
extracts the information and publishes it to
FactoryTalk Alarms and Events
Services.
dongle
A dongle is a security or copy-protection device for commercial computer programs. When required by a program, a dongle must be connected to an input/output port, such as a USB or parallel port of the computer, to allow the program to run. Programs that use a dongle query the port at startup and programmed intervals thereafter, and close if the dongle does not respond with the expected validation code.
driver
The software that allows the communication device installed in your system to communicate over the network.
- E -
environment
A physical computer network comprised of application platforms, the workstation(s) of the
FactoryTalk
directory server architecture, and all other nodes and devices in the connected network topology.
Ethernet
A local area network with a baseband communication rate of 10 megabits per second.
event
A detectable occurrence that is of significance to the server, the device it represents, and its clients.
External Access
A property that allows you to specify the level of access (Read-Only, Read/Write, or None) external applications and devices have to tags.
