How do I open Add Item?

Add Item
 identifies the items monitored in the
FactoryTalk Live Data Test Client
. Use
Add Item
to:
  • Add one or more items to a group
  • Add a branch of items to a group
  • Add an array of items to a group
    TIP:
    To add a large number of data items in a CSV or XML file, use
    Import Items
    .
Setting
Description
ItemID
The name of the data item, as displayed in the server. Select an
ItemID
 from the data server tree at the bottom of the dialog box or type the fully-qualified
OPC
 address of a data item into this box.
The maximum length is 260 characters.
Item Properties
View detailed property information for a selected item. When viewing item properties, the number in parentheses is an internal identifier for the data item. Numbers below 5000 are defined by the
OPC
 foundation. Numbers above 5000 are vendor-specific.
Datatype
Request a specific format for the data sent back by the server.
FactoryTalk Live Data Test Client
 does not necessarily display the data in the selected format, because the client parses the data type from the variant it is given by the server.
If the datatype is invalid (for example, an array of more than 1 on a single item with a canonical datatype of VT_I2), the server returns an error, and does not add the data item. There are also times when the server returns a canonical datatype that is different from the requested one. The server adds the item and makes the proper conversions to send the data in the requested format.
If unsure of the data type, select
Default
.
Active
To display information about the data item (for example, changes to its status or value at the server), select the
Active
 check box. To prevent information about the data item from being displayed in the
FactoryTalk Live Data Test Client
, clear the
Active
 check box. This setting is not editable for an array.
Data server tree pane
Displays the directory tree for the connected data server. Expand the tree to view an
OPC
 topic, PLC register, or
FactoryTalk
 data item address containing the data to monitor.
Data item pane
Displays the tags available under the data item address selected in the data server tree pane.
Some data structures for OPC UA servers include tags that have have additional child tags. These tags are displayed beneath a folder called
<tagname>.@UA_Folder
.

Displays the selected items to be added to the group.
Add Branch
Use
Add Branch
 to add all items in the selected data item address (in the lower left pane) to the
Items to Add
 pane.
