DDE Server

Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) Interface
DDE enables Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and custom third-party software to access a small amount of control system data using the legacy DDE protocol. There are two methods available to access data. The simplest form presents individual scalar data items are represented within folders for data scopes, structure, and array elements. All data available to FactoryTalk Linx, the FactoryTalk Linx OPC UA Connector, the FactoryTalk Live Data OPC DA interface, and FactoryTalk standalone data service, FactoryTalk Resource and Status server, and FactoryTalk View SE HMI tags is fully available. By creating a custom namespace, selected scalar items can be chosen and even renamed for access by a DDE client.
IMPORTANT: The DDE function doesn't allow multiple users to use it on one computer.
Field
Description
Disabled and Enabled
Controls the DDE interface and view the status.
Namespace
Determines how the DDE interface will present information to Excel and third-party software.
  • Folders with scalar data
Allows DDE clients to access all data as scalar from all FactoryTalk application sources. For more information about DDE, see Use DDE.
  • Custom namespace
Permits the creation of user defined structures and tags within FactoryTalk Linx Gateway and assigns these definitions to tag data from FactoryTalk application data sources. This allows you to reorganize or remap the underlying information to support a different naming convention often required to support OPC UA Companion data models. For more information, see Custom DDE Namespace.
