Work with a self-signed certificate for evaluation and test purposes

A self-signed certificate will be generated and activated for Historian WebTrend in Internet Information Service (IIS) Manager during the installation. To enable client browsers to validate and trust a self-signed certificate, follow these steps to complete the initial setup.
To work with a self-signed certificate for evaluation and test purposes
  1. After installing Historian WebTrend on the server, go to
    C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\FactoryTalk Historian\Historian WebTrend\SelfSignedCerts
    , and then copy the
    <hostname>.cer
    file into the client.
  2. Import the self-signed certificate to the client.
    The following steps use Windows operating systems as an example. For steps on other operating systems, see their user documentation.
    1. Double-click the
      <hostname>.cer
      file.
    2. In the dialog, on the tab, select
      Install Certificate
      .
    3. In the dialog, under
      Store Location
      , select
      Current User
      or
      Local Machine
      as needed, and then select
      Next
      .
    4. Select
      Place all certificates in the following store
      , and then select
      Browse
      .
    5. Select
      Trusted Root Certification Authorities
      , and then select
      OK
      .
    6. Select
      Next
      .
    7. Select
      Finish
      .
    8. In the dialog, select
      OK
      .
    9. Select
      OK
      .
