Use EtherNet/IP Address Commissioning Tool in a virtual machine

Before using this tool in a virtual machine (VM), the network of the machine should be configured in advance.
There are two kinds of networks that are supported for a virtual machine to receive BootP/DHCP requests.
  • Bridged network
In a bridged network mode, the VM passes "bridges" through the host operating system to directly connect to a network used by the host operating system. The VM will appear within the same subnet as the host machine. All other physical machines on the same physical network can detect the VM and access it.
Therefore, user could utilize the "bridged" network option and manually set workstation network settings (for example. the IP Address and subnet mask).
  • NAT network
With NAT, the virtual machine and the host system share a single network identity that is not visible outside the network. To use the EtherNet/IP Address Commissioning Tool in a VM configured to a NAT network, use a USB adapter to provide Network Interface Card for the VM. Then the VM can receive BootP/DHCP requests. USB Ethernet Adapter greatly simplifies the PC's network configuration.
