Cut and paste in the Controller Organizer

You can use cut and paste to move items in the
Controller Organizer
. Moving an item in the
Controller Organizer
has the following effects:
  • It changes the scheduling of a moved program.
  • If there are any descendant programs under a moved program (defined in the
    Logical Organizer
), the descendant programs are moved with the item in the
    Controller Organizer
    .
TIP: If FactoryTalk Security is enabled, FactoryTalk Security permissions are required to create and delete items in the
    Controller Organizer
    and the
    Logical Organizer
    .
You can also create a logical model in the
Logical Organizer
that is organized in terms of procedures, objects, functions, equipment, or other more natural terms and concepts. You can then copy that model to the
Controller Organizer
to schedule and unschedule programs.
IMPORTANT:
Use caution when cutting, copying, and pasting components between different versions of the application. The application only supports pasting to the same version or newer version of the application. Pasting to a prior version of the application is not fully supported. When pasting to a prior version, the paste action may succeed but the results may not be as intended.
Be aware of these items when cutting and pasting in the
Controller Organizer
:
  • When online, you must unschedule the program before cutting it from the
    Controller Organizer
    .
  • If the name of a pasted item conflicts with the name of an existing item under that target item, an integer is added to the name of the moved item to uniquely identify it (for example,
    ProjAProgR001
    ,
    ProjAProgR0011
    ,
    ProjAProgR0012
    , and so on).
  • You can select multiple items of the same type to cut and paste (programs, Add-On Instructions, and User-Defined Data Types or Strings). The paste operation proceeds if at least one item can be moved (only the items that can be moved are moved).
  • You cannot paste an item if doing so would exceed the limit of 1000 child programs at the target item, or if it would exceed the limit of 1000 programs scheduled under a task.
  • You cannot cut and paste an axis or a Coordinate System that is managed. When an axis or Coordinate System is associated to a robot, it might be managed, meaning some parameters are not configurable depending on the robot type. Refer to the specific robot documentation for a list of configurable parameters.
To cut and paste items in the Controller Organizer:
  1. Right-click the item and then choose
    Cut
    .
  2. Right-click the target item and then choose
    Paste
    .
You can cut and paste items from the
Controller Organizer
to a different project in a different copy of the Logix Designer application. Note that this removes the cut item from the original project. You can cut and paste an item from the
Controller Organizer
to the
Controller Organizer
or the
Logical Organizer
in the different project.
When you paste the item on a target item in the different project, the pasted item appears under the target item. If a pasted program has any descendant programs (defined in the
Logical Organizer
), they are cut and pasted with their parent item to the different project.
