System log
    System logs are a generic mechanism for exposing messages from 
FactoryTalk Optix Studio
 to monitor software execution flow and diagnose problems. The logs are issued both by FactoryTalk Optix Applications
 and FactoryTalk Optix Studio
. 
      The location of 
FactoryTalk Optix Runtime
 logs depends on the target device operating system:
      - Embedded devices:/persistent/log/Rockwell_Automation/FactoryTalk_Optix
- Windows devices:%localappdata%\Rockwell Automation\FactoryTalk Optix\Application\Log
- Ubuntu devices:/opt/Rockwell_Automation/FactoryTalk_Optix/ApplicationUpdateService/LogTIP: During the RuntimeTools installation, you can change the default installation path. If you installed RuntimeTools to a custom location, the logs are stored in theLogsubdirectory of the custom location.
During the 
FactoryTalk Optix Studio
 design phase, any log messages that occur appear in the bottom bar of FactoryTalk Optix Studio
 and are saved.When you run the source project by starting your 
    
    
FactoryTalk Optix Application
, you can monitor log events from both the local development computer and the target device on which the  FactoryTalk Optix Runtime
 application is deployed. The FactoryTalk Optix Runtime
 log events are displayed in the FactoryTalk Optix Studio
 user interface on a separate status tab with the name of the target device.

        You can select objects in log messages to highlight them in 
Project view
.The logs are also saved on the file system at these locations:
      
- For projects started in a local emulation:%localappdata%\Rockwell Automation\FactoryTalk Optix\Emulator\Log\<Project name>
- For projects started on a target device:%localappdata%\Rockwell Automation\FactoryTalk Optix\Studio\Log\Device\<Devicename>
