Logix SIS Security Considerations

Secure systems that use Logix SIS applications have specific considerations for safety components.
Logix SIS Security Considerations
Safety Component
Consideration
System reaction time
A number of factors can influence the reaction time of a safety system, including the security configuration of redundant communication modules and the safety task watchdog time. We recommend that you tune your safety system timing parameters and calculate the system reaction time after you complete the security configuration of high availability system components.
Controller project safety signature
The controller project safety signature verifies the integrity of a safety application by uniquely identifying its logic, constant data, and configuration. You must record the controller project safety signature in a secure location.
Safety Add-On Instruction signature
The Safety Add-On Instruction signature verifies the integrity of the safety Add-On Instruction during downloads to the controller by uniquely identifying the execution characteristics of the safety Add-On Instruction. You must record the Safety Add-On Instruction signature in a secure location.
Safety-lock
To help protect safety control components from modification and help prevent the safety signature from being deleted accidentally, we recommend that you safety-lock the controller. However, the safety-lock is not a requirement for IEC-62443-4-2 compliance.
