parity
An error-detection technique that tests the integrity of digital data within the computer system or over a network. Parity checking uses an extra bit that holds a 0 or 1 depending on the data content of the byte. Each time a byte is transferred or transmitted, the parity bit is tested.
predefined item
A counter or string that access information from FactoryTalk Linx that can be used for diagnostic purposes. Predefined item can be either internal or external. It can be referenced in other terms. For example, predefine, pre-define, pre-defined, and @define.
platform
A workstation that hosts a design tool or runtime tool, or a dedication HMI that hosts a runtime tool.
poll
Systematically request data from a device.
poll rate
Often how data is requested from a device. Poll rates are typically specified in milliseconds. (A poll rate of 1000 ms results in data being requested every second).
primary topology
A network topology associated with the local workstation or, in a distributed application, the primary server host workstation.

redundancy
The use of multiple similar devices, such that if one fails, the remaining device(s) take over the assigned functions, thus improving the devices' availability.

A network topology associated with a
FactoryTalk View ME
runtime execution platform, typically a
PanelView Plus
device.
