Ethernet Drivers

A driver is the software interface to the computer or workstation hardware that allows the computer to communicate with a network to detect and communicate with a control system device. If a device is not detected by the
FactoryTalk Linx
Network Browser
, use the browser to add or modify a driver configuration.
TIP:
By default, the USB driver node is displayed in the driver topology tree. It shares the same relationship with the one under Backplane. Once a USB device is plugged in, the device will be browsed under this node.
The Ethernet driver provides multiple ways for the computer or workstation to discover or detect devices on EtherNet/IP:
  • Local Broadcast
    - Broadcast message to the full subnet that the computer is connected to (local)
  • Remote Broadcast
    - Broadcast message to a full subnet that is different from the one the computer is connected to (remote)
  • Device List/Range
    - Directly communicate with a device that you specify in a list or range
Add a driver for local or remote broadcast or create a list or range of IP addresses. Perform the applicable task to add a driver.
