Add a rack

Racks are locations on the PLC or device type. They determine the addresses you can give to tags or expressions. The available rack numbers are determined by your scanner configuration.
To add a rack to your remote I/O (RIO) scanner
  1. From the
    Communication Setup
    editor,
    right-click
on the RIO scanner and click
    Configure RIO
    to open the
    RIO Configuration
dialog box. When it opens for the first time, the only element present is the RIO scanner.
  2. Right-click
the RIO scanner and then click
    Add Rack
    to display the
    Rack Properties
    dialog box.
Note that adding a rack also adds a group to the tree.
  3. Select a
    Rack #
from the list. The available rack numbers are determined by the scanner configuration.
    TIP:
Each remote module must be assigned a unique rack number and cannot overlap.
  4. Select a
    Module Grouping
. Module groups are fractions of Remote I/O racks. A full rack consists of 8 module groups. Therefore, each quarter rack consists of 2 module groups. To assign partial racks to a Remote I/O application, set the appropriate module grouping from the list.
  5. Choose whether the terminal can read only, or both read and write to the rack's I/O space.
    Choose
    Full (Read/Write) access
(the default mode) to allow the rack to read discrete Output data from, and write discrete data to, the scanner.
    Choose
    Listen Only access
to set the rack to only monitor the data sent to, or returned from, another rack.
  6. When you are finished adding module groupings, click
    OK
to close the Rack Properties dialog box.
