Associate a database definition with an alarm server

To enable the alarm server to log historical alarm and event data to a database, associate a database definition with a
Rockwell Automation
Device Server (
FactoryTalk Linx
), a
FactoryTalk
Tag Alarm and Event Server, or an OPC UA server.
To associate a database definition with an alarm server
  1. In the
    FactoryTalk Administration Console
    or
    FactoryTalk View Studio
    Explorer
    window, select a
    Rockwell Automation
    Device Server (
    FactoryTalk Linx
    ), a
    FactoryTalk
Tag Alarm and Event Server, or an OPC UA server.
  2. Right-click the server, and then click
    Properties
    .
    • For a
      FactoryTalk Linx
      Device Server, in the
      FactoryTalk Linx
      Server Properties
      dialog box, click the
      Alarms and Events
      tab.
    • For a Tag Alarm and Event Server, in the

      dialog box, click the
      Priority and History
      tab.
    • For an OPC UA server, on the
      OPC UA Servers
      tab of
      FactoryTalk Linx

      Alarm Settings
      .
  3. Under

  4. In the
    Database definition
list, select the database definition that will receive alarm and event data from the selected alarm server.
  5. In the
    Cache file path
text box, specify a local (non-UNC) directory path to the Alarm and Event Historian cache files (*. rsl) to ensure the association and protect against network disconnects. The default is c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Rockwell\Alarms.
If using a non-default cache file path, grant the
    LOCAL SERVICE
user full access to the path before you are allowed to make a change.
  6. In
    Log languages
, select one or more languages that you want to log messages in.
If you want to assign one language as the default log language, select the radio button next to it.
  7. Click
    OK
    .
